Freedom EMS is proud to announce that EMT Intermediate and EMS Director Pebbles Luddington has been named a 2010 Oklahoma Ambulance Association (OKAMA) Star of Life.
The Star of Life award is presented to paramedics, emergency medical technicians and other Oklahomans working in the emergency medical services field who demonstrate a strong commitment to their patients, clinical quality or service excellence.
The Star of Life, a blue, six-pointed star, is the international symbol of emergency medical services. Each of the star’s six arms represents a different link in the emergency care chain.
Luddington and 22 other Oklahoma Star of Life honorees will be recognized at a banquet at the Philips Pavilion at the Oklahoma Governor’s Mansion on March 9. One honoree will be selected to represent OKAMA at the American Ambulance Association’s national Stars of Life event in Washington, DC, in May.
OKAMA President Bob Hawley says the Star of Life events help showcase the important role of emergency medical services.
“Paramedics, emergency medical technicians and medical first responders are on the frontline of healthcare. When Oklahomans have heart attacks, are involved in serious car wrecks or have other medical crises, they’re usually the ones who initiate care,” Hawley said. “The OKAMA Stars of Life are men and women who go above and beyond to get the job done. They sacrifice their own comforts, desires and needs – sometimes even their own safety – to make sure Oklahomans get the best possible emergency medical care.”
Luddington began her career at Freedom EMS as an EMT in 1994. She has been the EMS director since 2005 and is a native of Freedom.
