On April 1st you may find Paul Marmen having his morning coffee at home before heading out to the golf course….and this on a WEEKDAY, you ask? Believe it, ‘cause Paul plans to retire from his position as Program Director at the Oklahoma EMSC office on March 31st! A long-time Oklahoma EMS Educator, Paul began his career with OUHSC’s Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine/EMSC in 1996, bringing with him a passion for pediatric well-being and a strong desire to “make things better” for kids in Oklahoma through expanded injury prevention programs and improved knowledge/skills for pediatric emergency providers. Today the EMSC Resource Center serves educators, emergency providers, child care personnel and child advocates of all kinds by providing information and training designed not only to treat but prevent pediatric injury. Some of the Center’s offerings are multilingual; at least one has resulted in national recognition for the Oklahoma EMSC program. Paul continues to share his enthusiasm for pediatric care throughout Oklahoma, teaching numerous courses and educating those who desire to become EMS Instructors through his position as an OSDH-appointed Master Instructor. He serves on several state boards and committees, currently is chair of the OERSDAC Training and Licensure Subcommittee, and has co-authored a book on pediatric emergencies. Where do we find the right words to honor our friend, educator, mentor - the person who has made a true difference in pediatric care in Oklahoma? How about “Farewell, Champion! We’ll miss you!!”
